This course will cover basic drawing techniques with the still life. Students will learn contour line, the tonal scale and composition. Learn historical drawing techniques vine charcoal, graphite, brush and ink. This class will survey these techniques and provide a foundation for students wishing to advance to Intermediate / Advanced Drawing and Painting Courses. Hard vine charcoal sticks and a 18” X 24” drawing pad (70-90 lb. press) are required for the first class.

Instructor is an established artist who has taught painting and drawing for more than 40 years. Bring to the first class supplies that you desire to use, such as sketchpad, pencils, drawing supplies and/or paints.

Advanced students will focus on perfecting their style and quality of work. Bring in your own subject to work on or use the still life created for you by the instructor. Each student is responsible for his or her own supplies although a list for beginners can be supplied by the instructor upon request.

Six Week Class

Beginning January

Local wedding and sports photographer Rich Bahret will open up the world of photography to you as he presents an introduction to digital photography, teaching you how to use your own camera and make amazing images.  Basic camera operation including principles of shutter speed, aperture, metering and lighting will be covered.  The class will include hands-on photographing of people, places and things from the first class.  Bring your digital camera and instruction booklet.

Rich began shooting in 1991, specializing in weddings, families, commercial and fashion. He owns and operates People, Places and Things Photography (www.PPTPhoto.net).

 

Cartooning and Drawing

The basic Cartooning and Drawing Class is an hour and a half long and focuses on rudimentary skills such as sketching, developing creativity, figure drawing, learning how to create proper perspective, charcoal pencil and inking techniques, and more.  Students focus on what they like to draw, learning techniques and concepts that help them to refine and improve their skills while learning about different artists and art genres.  Each student works at their own level.

This class is designed to teach the very beginner the basics of watercolors... step by step.  The goal of the class is to teach basic color theory, mixing color using a 6 color palette and basic watercolor techniques.  Class instruction will include a packet with written instructions, a photograph of the project and a line drawing.  Class supplies will be available for the first project. The class will receive individual instruction and critique.

 

Open Painting

This class is designed for those students who have a working knowledge of basic techniques and materials in their media of choice: watercolor, oil, acrylic or charcoal. The focus will be on refining and enhancing skills, and enabling students to bring their work to the next level. Painting fundamentals including composition and design, color mixing, value and drawing will be addressed as the instructor works with each student individually and encourages them to develop and define their own unique style. Work from your own reference material.

Larry’s forte is landscape while Judy’s is portraiture. Students receive individual instruction and assistance, and learn to develop their own unique expression. Class consists of a teaching and lecture session, painting time, and critique of work.

Study the keyboard one on one with Pianist and Musical Director Sandy Kawer. The teacher has worked as a musical director for more than 40 Broadway musicals and has taught voice and piano for four decades. For beginners to experienced keyboard and piano players.

$30 per half hour, $50 for one hour.

Life Drawing – All Levels

Dan works individually with each student on their techniques, compositions and personal projects, bringing out the confidence necessary to create freely.

 

Sumi-e or Suiboku

Learn the traditional Japanese Sumi-e or Suiboku method of using black ink and watercolor, and all techniques of oriental brush painting with Hiroko Borish. Although familiar with both western and oriental techniques, Hiroko’s beautiful paintings primarily reflect her oriental background.

In this class, you can focus on oil/acrylic, colored pencil, graphite or pen and ink – or experiment and get better at all of them! Annemarie Goossens has been a ceramic artist for thirty years and has taught ceramics for twenty years. She has managed the BAC pottery studio for the past seven years.

Raku

Here is the opportunity to learn about firing the Raku kiln with potter Shamus Walker and to fire at least two pieces in both glazed and ‘naked’ Raku. (Naked Raku requires burnished bisque). Bring your biscuit ware and any specialty combustible materials you want to try (ie., dry seaweed, horse hair, palm leaves, etc.) We expect to have at least three firings for each session.

Please bring a dish to share for the potluck luncheon.
