SUMMER CAMP 2021

Back by popular demand the Beach Art Center will be offering our

"Creative Kids" Summer Camp for 8 weeks beginning June 14th!

(Note: There will be no Half Day camp this year.)

FULL DAY CAMP

9am - 3pm, Monday - Friday
June 14th - August 6th
Fun for ages 6-15
$203.50 per week for Members
$220.00 per week for Non-Members

Meet the Masters - work in clay, paints, mixed media, pastels - in the style of a different Master each session.  Full-day campers will focus on the Masters and various cultures.  Each week the central theme will revolve around a different artist. 

Campers will alternate working in our gallery space and pottery studio, learning about the style of each artist and applying that to their work in clay, watercolors, pastels, mixed media and more. 

Each week will be accompanied by visual materials to acquaint the students with the artist’s work.

Each student will receive their own art supply packet which is included in the price of the camp. 

We encourage students to wear old clothes – creativity can be messy!

CREATURES FROM THE SEA

Week 1:  June 14th-June 18th
Full Day, Monday-Friday 
9:00am-3:00pm

Students will dive into the art work of Robert Wyland, experiencing the amazing undersea world of Wyland art. Robert Wyland is an American Artist who celebrates underwater sea-life. He is known for his colorful works of sea life painted on skyscrapers across the country, bronze sculptures, watercolors and oils.
Students will work on the wheel and hand build in the pottery studio to create ceramic pieces and work on drawing, print making and painting based on sculptures, paintings and prints of Wyland’s works.
Appropriate for kids age 6-15.

CHA CHA CHIA!

Week 2:  June 21st-June 25th
Full Day, Monday-Friday 
9:00am-3:00pm

Students will have fun creating their very own ceramic chia pet while learning about the artist Albrecht Drurer. Drurer was a German painter and printmaker who did a body of realistic nature studies including Young Hare.
Students will work on the wheel and hand build in the pottery studio to create ceramic pieces inspired by Albrecht Drurer. Students will create prints drawing/paintings and ceramic pieces based on Drurer’s work.
Appropriate for kids age 6-15.

COLORFUL MEXICAN
FOLK ART

Week 3:  June 28th-July 2nd
Full Day, Monday-Friday 
9:00am-3:00pm

Have fun exploring the colorful world of of Mexican Folk Art and create an ancient Amate Bark painting and colorful ceramic sun wall hanging inspired by the Nahua Indians who are descendants of the Aztecs. Throw a bowl or cup on the wheel and decorate it with pattern and color inspired by Mexican Folk Art.
Students will work on the wheel and hand build in the pottery studio to create ceramic pieces inspired by colorful and playful Mexican Folk Art. Students will create paintings, sculptures and pressed metal foil art inspired by Mexican Folk Art.
Appropriate for kids age 6-15.

DAY DREAMING WITH
MARC CHAGALL

Week 4:  July 5th-July 9th
Full Day, Monday-Friday 
9:00am-3:00pm

Modern artist Marc Chagall’s work is characterized by dreamlike qualities infused with touches of humor, emotion, storytelling and cheerful color, (and animals such as roosters!)  Students will enjoy creating quirky street-scapes inspired by Chagall. “There’s just something really fun about crooked buildings and random things flying through the air!”
Students will work on the wheel and hand build in the pottery studio to create ceramic pieces inspired by Marc Chagall. Students will create colorful roosters and tiny ceramic houses that could be used as a fairy house in the garden. Students will use a variety of media to make works based on Chagall.
Appropriate for kids age 6-15.

GET SURREAL WITH DALI

Week 5:  July 12th-July 16th
Full Day, Monday-Friday 
9:00am-3:00pm

Surrealist artist Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was born in Figures Spain. Dali was one of the greatest surrealist who translated dreams into an artwork. Dali was a painter, sculptor, graphic artist and designer. Students will create dreamlike landscapes, animals and perhaps even be inspired by their own dreams while sculpting, painting or drawing.
Students will work on the wheel and hand build in the pottery studio to create ceramic pieces inspired by Salvadore Dali. Students will create a ceramic melting clock, paintings and drawings with dreamlike qualities just as Dali did.
Appropriate for kids age 6-15.

NATIVE AMERICAN ART

Week 6:  July 19th-July 23rd
Full Day, Monday-Friday 
9:00am-3:00pm

Students will enjoy creating Dream Catchers, Talking Sticks, Ceramic Totem Poles and pottery pieces while learning about the different symbols and the cultural meaning behind each piece. 
Students will work on the wheel and hand build in the pottery studio to create ceramic pieces inspired by Native American art. Students will use a variety of media to create Dream Catchers, Talking Sticks and drawings/paintings.
Appropriate for kids age 6-15.

GET TO THE POINT
WITH POINTILLISM

Week 7:  July 26th-July 30th
Full Day, Monday-Friday 
9:00am-3:00pm

Students will learn about George Seurat a French post impressionist from the 1800’s, who created paintings with the pointillism technique. Pointillism art is basically just painting with dots. But in a more complicated description, it is a technique where you do not mix the pigments of color but instead have varying dots of color that require the viewer to combine the colors. Their mind and eye blend the colors for them.
Students will work on the wheel and hand build in the pottery studio to create ceramic pieces inspired by George Seurat. Students will create paintings and use a variety of media to make works inspired by Seurat.
Appropriate for kids age 6-15.

WHAT'S YOUR REALITY?

Week 8:  Aug 2nd-Aug 6th
Full Day, Monday-Friday 
9:00am-3:00pm

Students will tap in to their imagination to create their own surreal art work based on how they see the world just as Renee Magritte did. They will create works based on their personality and interest. Rene Magritte’s version of Surrealism contains witty and thought provoking images. Magritte challenges our thoughts of reality, places, and ordinary objects. He gives new meaning to familiar things.
Students will work on the wheel and hand build in the pottery studio to create ceramic pieces inspired by Rene Magritte. Students will also explore Magritte’s work through painting, printmaking and drawing.
Appropriate for kids age 6-15.

COVID & CAMP POLICY 2021

Please read before registering for Summer Camp.
(You will be asked to agree to this Policy on your Summer Camp Registration form.)

We are following all CDC guidelines and safety protocols to ensure a comfortable and safe experience for children and parents who enter the Beach Art Center.  Should things improve drastically by the time Summer Camp begins, our policy may be amended, and registrants will be notified.


The Beach Art Center has implemented extra cleaning and disinfecting protocols throughout the building to keep our students and staff safe.

Social Distancing

We will be practicing social distancing by limiting camp class size to 12 students and separating class chairs 6' apart.  To keep students safe and distanced, campers will not be sharing arts and crafts supplies but will be provided their own personal supply kit to use throughout each camp.


Masks are Required

All children, parents, staff, and volunteers will be required to wear a face covering or mask that covers your nose and mouth while in the building.  Face coverings may be removed only while eating or drinking. 


Drop-Off/Pick-Up

Camp runs from Monday through Friday 9:00am to 3:00pm. Camper must be picked up at 3:00 by the parent(s) or guardians(s) authorized on the registration form. Children will not be permitted to walk home unless permission is granted on the registration.  Due to COVID Pickup and Drop-off times must be adhered too. The BAC does NOT offer any extended care.

All persons entering the building must register their name and phone number, and no-touch temperature will be taken.


Hand sanitizer stations will be placed throughout BAC and children will be asked to wash their hands regularly. 


Lunch – Snacks - Drinks

Children should bring a snack/lunch and drink in a labeled cooler bag daily.  No refrigeration or heating services are available.  Staff is only permitted to provide water for health and safety reasons.  Students are not allowed to share food with each other.  This policy is to insure the safety of each child by preventing allergic reactions.


Remain Home if Sick / Attendance

Parents are asked to monitor their children closely for any sign of potential illness. Students and parents should remain at home if they are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19 including fever, new or persistent cough, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, fatigue and/or stomach issues. 


If a Student is sent home due to sickness a doctor's note is required to return to class. If your child becomes ill while at camp, we will utilize the contact list you provided upon registration.  BAC, or any staff, contractor, or volunteer of BAC, is not able to administer medications. Please do not send medications with your child.*

*Should you need a special accommodation to this policy, please discuss with the Administration at least 2 weeks prior to the start of camp.  We will do our best to accommodate your needs where this is possible.


Completed Projects

All completed projects must be removed at the end of each camp session.  Incomplete pottery and clay projects requiring glazing or firing must be picked up during the second week following the camp session your child attended.  Projects left at BAC will be forfeited to BAC for disposal or sale at BAC’s discretion.


Cancellations/Refunds

A full refund is provided minus a $50 administrative fee if we are notified at least 7 days prior to the start of camp.

No refunds will be issued for cancellations less than 7 days prior to the start of camp.

If your child is unable to attend camp due to an injury or illness, and you provide a doctor's note and notify us before the week begins, you will receive a full refund (minus the $50 non-refundable deposit). 

If your child attends a partial week, before cancelling due to injury or illness, we will give a pro-rated refund for the days the child missed if provided with a doctor's note. 

BAC reserves the right to dismiss any participant whose conduct or influence is not consistent with BAC conduct expectations. In such event, no refund will be given.


Acknowledgement of COVID Risk

Upon registering my camper(s) for BAC Summer camp acknowledge that I am aware of the contagious nature of COVID-19 and have voluntarily chosen to allow my child(ren) to participate in Creative Kids Camp operated by the Beach Art Center (BAC).  I acknowledge that BAC Camp Staff, (staff, instructors, volunteers) encounter multiple individuals, and might become exposed to COVID-19.  I also acknowledge that although BAC takes precautions to reduce the likelihood of transmission of COVID-19 by its Camp Staff, BAC cannot guarantee that my child(ren) will not become infected with COVID-19.


​I agree to assume all of the foregoing risks, and accept personal responsibility for any injury to my child(ren) or myself (including, but not limited to, personal injury, disability, and death), illness, damage, loss, claim, liability or expense, of any kind or nature, that I may suffer arising out of or in connection with my child(ren) or myself becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 while my child(ren) is/are participating in any BAC program.  On my own behalf, and on behalf of my child(ren), I hereby release, covenant not to sue, and forever discharge the BAC, its employees, agents, and representative, of and from all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs, or expenses of any nature (“Claims”) arising out of or in any way connected with my child(ren) or myself becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19.  I understand that this release includes any Claims based on the negligence, action, or inaction of any of BAC, its employees, agents, and representatives, and covers bodily injury (including death) due to COVID-19, whether a COVID-19 infection occurs before, during or after participation in any BAC program.
