August 2018 News

Dear Friends of the Beach Art Center, It’s August - hot out - and we have entered a relatively quiet time here at the Beach Art Center – Kids Camp is over, some of our teachers are away and so are a number of our regular students. That doesn’t mean that nothing is happening, however. Many of us are busy preparing for a lot of activity soon with much more to come: new shows, a beautiful, buzzing gift shop, new classes and workshops, working on fundraising possibilities, cleaning and sprucing up the building – acrylic, watercolor, and pottery classes, Art on the Rocks and Special Workshops are still ongoing along with open studio days. My recommendation: get out of the sun and join in the fun!

It’s been just about 6 months since we began our adventure as a membership-driven, volunteer staffed Art Center. We have a wonderful group of people on the Board who are all working hard to bring about changes that will keep us sustainable and growing. We are very fortunate to have Irene in our office 4 days a week … what would we do without her? Many of our members have given generously of their time volunteering. Not only has their help been crucial to our existence, it has given us the opportunity to get to know each other - So a BIG THANK YOU to all our Volunteers! We have also been very lucky to receive generous donations that have allowed us to carry out long-overdue repairs to our building. It has now been re-painted in fresh beachy colors and is getting a landscaping face-lift as well. One of the donations allowed us to put in hot water – something we have been missing for a long time. We are moving upward and onward. I have many more facility renovations scheduled. Contact us to find out how you can help with our future capital projects

Good news for those of you who would like to join as members: a decision just made by the Board will now allow you to sign up for a yearly membership when you choose – and no longer only at the beginning of the calendar year. This makes membership more accessible for people who want to sign up now or in the coming months. Many of us will still renew in January, but this allows people to join the Art Center throughout the year instead of waiting until January to make it seem worthwhile. If you are not a member, please consider joining and contributing to our cause – and if you are already a member, please consider gifting a membership to someone who would love to become one, but who is unable to do so for financial reasons.

Last night we celebrated an art opening titled “Under the Summer Moon”. The works in the show have been judged and awarded prizes. In early September, we will have a two-man show featuring professional artists Jack Casey and Bruce Ferguson from the Tampa Bay Area. They will be presenting us paintings and sculpture. Stay tuned and join us for the opening on September 7th.

I look forward to seeing you very soon!
