Introduction to Percussion

2:00 - 5:00 PM

Attendees will learn:, drumming basics, names of and how to play a variety of percussion instruments from around the world, and improvisation on Orff style pitched percussion instruments Anyone can play these instruments. No musical experience required. Join in at drum circles. Play with confidence and joy. Everyone is a music maker!


If you have a drum feel free to bring it. Drums and other percussion instruments will be available for those that don’t have them.

Meet your Instructor

Kathleen Bellavia

Kathleen is the founder of The Music Makers, Inc. and Creative Learning House. She started playing guitar and singing when she was a teenager. As a young adult, she received vocal and guitar training, traveled with a band, served on the foreign mission field, and worked as a worship leader and in children's ministry in the States.

Kathleen has been teaching music and art in schools, studios, camps and other centers for over 30 years. In 2017 she was trained by Lynn Kleiner, founder of Music Rhapsody, and is currently a Licensed Music Rhapsody teacher.
Writing, teaching, and performing are Kathleen's passions. Her most recent accomplishments include cowriting and implementing a complete ukulele program, opening an arts-enriched morning school called Creative Learning House, leading drum circles and making original art with up-cycled materials. She currently travels back and forth between NC and FL offering her music and art programs wherever she goes.

Parking:

Parking is available in front of the building, at Kolb Park across the street, and in the grassy area behind our building.  Students may also park in the lot between our building and the Indian Rocks Beach Library even though signs say

"City Hall Parking Only."

Please do not park in the paved spaces behind our building that are reserved for "City Vehicles Only."
