Planning a trip to Italy? Curious about the language? Or hoping to reconnect with your Italian roots? This beginner class will help you take your first steps with confidence.You’ll learn how to hold simple conversations in Italian and practice the everyday language you need for traveling. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to shop, order food, and navigate train travel using practical Italian phrases. Join us and start your journey into the beauty of the Italian language and culture!

Meet your Instructor

I’ve been teaching Italian since 2002. The foundation was there from birth because mia mamma—my mom—is an Italian immigrant from Naples, Italy.
My interest in perfecting my Italian language skills led me to the Department of Italian Studies at Indiana University and to L’Università di Bologna in Bologna, Italy. After completing my studies with two degrees—Italian and Communications—I enjoyed a 25-year career as a television sports director and anchor/reporter in major markets across the United States.
Never losing sight of my real interest, I began yearly visits to Italy in 1990. In 1999, I retired from the television industry and shifted my focus to all things Italian, including designing and leading tours to Italy and, of course, teaching. As an adult learner, you’ll have questions—and I’ll have the answers. I’ve developed a curriculum that starts with a solid foundation of basic language skills and continues with a logical progression that allows each lesson to build on your ability to speak Italian. Naturally, you’ll also learn about Italian culture, which will help you understand the customs and traditions many have followed throughout their lives.
