Encaustic painting is the process of painting with hot pigmented beeswax. This technique is ancient, but has become increasingly popular with modern artists of today. Come delve into the versatility of this fascinating medium that invites you to experiment! Participants will learn about encaustic history, safety, surfaces, and fusing. In this comprehensive class we will be exploring a variety of techniques such as incising, image transfers, pigment sticks, mark-making, collage, mono-printing, and incorporating photos. All materials are supplied.

Meet your Instructor

Shelley Jean

Shelley Jean is an artist/educator that studied at the Florida School of the Arts. She graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.S. in Art Education and has taught in the public and private sector for over 35 years. She currently teaches throughout Florida offering in person workshops, private mentoring and Art for the Soul Retreats nationally and internationally in Santa Fe New Mexico at Georgia O’ Keefe’s Ghost Ranch and in Tuscany, Italy. Shelley is the founder and President of Florida Wax since 2017, a Chapter of International Encaustic artists and a Core Artist for R&F Paints.

Parking:

Parking is available in front of the building, at Kolb Park across the street, and in the grassy area behind our building.  Students may also park in the lot between our building and the Indian Rocks Beach Library even though signs say

"City Hall Parking Only."

Please do not park in the paved spaces behind our building that are reserved for "City Vehicles Only."
