April 23, 30, May 7, 14, 2026

6:00 - 8:00 PM

This class is intended for beginners who will learn basic technique for hand building and an introduction to the pottery wheel. Students will be introduced to bisque firing and glazing as well. Please bring an old towel and wear old clothes (and an apron if you have one) you don’t mind getting messy in our pottery studio!

Students will become acquainted with clay and its processes through hands-on experience building vessels using slab, coil, and pinch pot methods. They will observe demonstrations of pottery wheel throwing and have the opportunity to create their own pieces on the wheel, including cups, bowls, plates, and pitchers, while learning techniques such as footing. The class will also cover the firing stages of clay, selecting appropriate glazes for each piece, and the steps involved in cleanup, finishing, and presentation of completed works.

Students will explore clay through handbuilding techniques such as slab, coil, and pinch, as well as time on the potter’s wheel creating vessels like cups and bowls. They will decorate their work using texture, clay stains, and carving, and learn about firing, glazing, finishing, and presentation.
