In this pastel painting class, students will learn techniques for creating believable water and natural coastal landscapes. Beginners will focus on painting simple subjects, such as fruit, to build confidence with pastel techniques, while more advanced students will explore painting energetic waves and dynamic seascapes.
Throughout the class, students will develop a stronger understanding of composition, values, edges, and color as they build their paintings through logical, easy-to-follow stages. By the end of the workshop, each student will have gained practical pastel techniques they can continue using in future paintings, increased confidence in their skills, and a completed artwork to take home.

Betsy Ore Glass
A native of Virginia Beach, VA, Betsy Ore Glass and her husband, raised their two children, enjoying frequent trips to the Outer Banks of NC to enjoy the beach, sand and fishing. In the year 2000, after a 30-year career in broadcasting and advertising, Betsy began taking photographs for fun. The hobby turned into a passion, and before long, Betsy was contributing photographs to coastal North Carolina newspapers. Her photography was useful in documenting Hurricane Isabel's devastation on the East Coast and caught the attention of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the North Carolina Sea Grant Association. For Betsy, taking photographs of any beach is pure joy, particularly if it includes old-style cottages and sand fences.
She is a two-time cancer survivor. Reaching a time in
life of personal reflection, her thoughts and memories of the beach, both as a child and as an adult, led her to write "Reflections by the Sea" to give to her children as a road map for an upright, inspirational life. Then Betsy added something unique to the Reflections-her photography. Her writing has evolved into a weekly newspaper column and a blog posting for over 20 years. Using many of her photographs as reference, she expanded to painting landscapes and seascapes in oil and pastel. In late 2021 Betsy will have her first book of devotions published which will include her art and photography.
Now a resident of Palm Harbor, FL, Betsy enjoys painting boats, local scenes, waves and all things coastal. She believes these gifts of writing, photography and painting are God-given and feels led to use her life experiences, faith and talent to share God's blessings with others. Betsy is a member of the Dunedin Fine Art Center, PAVA, (Professional Association of Visual Artists). Indian Rocks Beach Art Center, TESA (The Exhibiting Society of Artists), Creative Artists Guild of Dunedin and Gallery 1212, also in Dunedin.
