POTTERY EXPLORATION

with Joyce Scalzo
Tuesdays 9:00am - 12:00pm
Fridays 9:00am - 12:00pm

Hand building and wheel throwing classes. All levels welcome.

Instructor, Joyce Scalzo has been throwing pots for 50 years and would love to work with newcomers as well as experienced potters. We will experiment with paper clay, sawdust firing, scrafitto, texturing, bubble glazing, transferring images and embedding natural materials into the clay. We will explore all aspects of clay. Wheel throwing, hand building, slab work, glazing and firing. I will help you find what you excel in and we will go from there. You will receive individual attention. If you have an idea in your mind, we will help you create it. We have a slab roller, extruder and wheels. You will be encouraged to try them all.

It is a friendly atmosphere. We will provide all the tools needed to work and we have a great time.

*IMPORTANT TO NOTE*

Potters need 3 to 4 classes to complete ONE piece from creation to firing, so please plan accordingly.  Clay pieces that are left in the studio for 60 days or more may be thrown out or repurposed by the Beach Art Center.

Student Supply List:  Students must purchase materials from the Beach Art Center at the first class and each time more clay is needed.
