BEGINNERS PALETTE KNIFE WORKSHOP

In our "Beginners Pallette Knife" Workshop students will create a painting using a pallette knife. Initial color is roughed in with brushes then the pallette knife works the magic of creating an abstract impressionistic painting.

Student can work from their own photos, or from sample of art supplied by instructor. Class is open to teens and adults.

We will break for lunch so bring your own lunch.

FLORIDA BOTANICAL GARDENS PHOTO TOUR

Join professional photographer and educator Mike Jensen for a photo tour workshop at the fabulous Florida Botanical Gardens.  This hands-on, interactive workshop is open for all levels of photographers and all cameras.  Mike will help you explore and learn new composition methods, using depth of field to create fine art shots.  We will photograph all areas of the flora and fauna of the gardens. 

The workshop will assemble at the Beach Art Center.  From there we will car-pool to the garden and begin our tour.  We will shoot for 3-4 hours take a lunch break upon returning to the Art Center, then assemble to learn vital editing/post-processing techniques for shooting the gardens.

  • Tripod is highly recommended

  • Lens capacity from 24mm to 400mm will give you great options

FIRE & LIGHT: IT IS ALL ABOUT COLOR!

This 2-day workshop is for all artists who wish to improve their color skills! The basic skills of using red, yellow and blue to build form is explained in the book, Fire & Light by Julie Hanson. Please read!

This class will teach the more advanced skills and you will learn Julie’s method of using color to maximize depth, mood, light, shadow, and all other aspects of a painting as it pertains to color/ value. This is truly ‘temperature painting’. Oil, water-soluble oil, acrylic and pastel (no use of water color in the class, but this workshop and the information contained will help ALL water-colorists!!)

Students are encouraged to bring photographs to the class which express subjects lit and shadowed. We will work from these.

LEARN TO USE PASTEL IN 4 HOURS

Learn to use pastel to make paintings from direct observation. Learn about different pastel hardnesses, paper tooths, and surfaces. Experiment with blending techniques, and color layering. Make your own color wheel using the primaries, and learn about color theory and complementary color.

A CONTEMPORARY APPROACH IN WATERCOLOR

PLEIN AIRE COLOR BOOTCAMP

Plein Aire Painting with an emphasis on Color with Key West Artist, John Clayton. 

Each day John Clayton will demonstrate using a palette knife. He will simplify the scene to flat masses and develop values and exciting color notes. Students will learn how to mix key colors, in an excessive creative way. We will study the light key by painting from life through the comparing of color notes.

LEARN TO DRAW IN 4 HOURS

Learn how to draw exactly what you see from direct observation. Shawn Dell Joyce teaches you how to see, identify and draw five values from light to dark. Start with single object studies and move to multiple objects in a still life. Create the illusion of dimensionality through values and sketching. Learn proportion and using simple sighting to create the illusion of depth and perspective in your drawings.

IMPRESSIONIST LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Fee: $325 Non-Members, $300 Members

This two day workshop is designed for anybody who is passionate about learning new skills in painting landscape with any level from the beginners to advanced. With the medium of your choice: oils, acrylic or watercolor (recommended previous basic knowledge of chosen medium) each student will be given personal instructions and attention during the two days period.

There will be a demonstration of the painting in the studio and outside and the exciting experience of painting en plein aire (outdoors).

Please be prepared to paint outside for both days, as the weather could be unpredictable and we can maximize our chances and take advantage of the best time to be outside. 

We will break at mid-day, please bring your own lunch. 

At the end of the workshop there will be a critique of the paintings.

OPEN STUDIO FOR ALL MEDIA
& POTTERY

We encourage artists and aspiring artists to visit the Beach Art Center during designated times for open studio. This is a great time to meet and learn from each other, and to be inspired by other creatives. Beach Art Center is happy to provide studio space to support our mission of engaging artists.  Bring your own table cover and supplies.

$10 for non-members.

Regular Studio hours are

Thursdays and Fridays 1-4pm.

Pottery Studio hours are Wednesdays 9am-12pm.


*Pottery Open Studio is only available to those currently enrolled in a Pottery Class.

 

Cancellation & Transfer Policy

for Classes and Workshops:

All fees associated with classes and workshops are non-refundable.  In the event a registrant needs to change or cancel their registration, the registrant should contact the Beach Art Center as far in advance as possible. Any agreement to change, cancel or transfer a registration after the class/workshop date has taken place is made at the sole discretion of the instructor.


Beach Art Center reserves the right to cancel classes or workshops if minimums are not met or for any other reason relevant to business needs. In the event of a cancellation initiated by Beach Art Center, the registrant will have the option to transfer to an available class or workshop, or to receive a full refund.

Beach Art Center does not hold credits on account for future use.


Liability & Photo Release:

Registration constitutes agreement to policies, waivers and releases published in the registration system. These include a waiver of liability and release of permission to take and use photos during classes.


General Policies:

The Beach Art Center does not allow firearms in the building.

Attendance requires advance registration and prepayment.

Parents are welcome to visit but may not attend classes unless registered.

The Beach Art Center does not store student art and reserves the right to dispose of items left by students.
