WORKSHOP

Nocturnes in Plein Air on Indian Rocks Beach

Shawn Dell Joyce

All Levels

$55 Members and $60 Non-members

Friday

December 4, 2026

6:00 - 9:00 PM

Experience the magic of painting as day transforms into night on the beautiful shores of Indian Rocks Beach. In this plein air painting workshop, you'll learn how to capture the fleeting colors and glowing light of a sunset on a small 5" x 7" canvas, working quickly to preserve the ever-changing atmosphere before it disappears.

As darkness settles, you'll continue your artistic journey by creating a nocturne painting, exploring the subtle beauty of the beach illuminated by moonlight. This workshop offers a wonderful opportunity to develop your skills in observing light, color, and value under dramatically different conditions.

Open to all mediums and all experience levels, this workshop is designed for both beginners and experienced artists looking to expand their plein air painting techniques. Some specialized equipment is required for painting after dark; a recommended supply list will be provided upon registration.

This workshop is offered in kick off of the Brushes on the Beach: A Plein Air & Sunset Celebration, making it a perfect addition to an inspiring weekend of outdoor painting.

Bring your own painting materials (acrylics, pastels, watercolor, oils, etc. plus brushes, and solvents) along with a 5x7 and a 9x12 canvas or paper to paint on. Also a chair and easel or clipboard to paint on. You'll need a battery-operated light (head lamps work best) or a book light as well.

PARKING: Parking is available at the pay-for-parking area on 16th Ave. or the Catholic Church for $5. Limited free parking is available at the Beach Art Center (students must be able to safely transport all of their items to the beach)

Location: Indian Rocks Beach (meet at 16th St. Beach Access)
