The Gulf Beach Art Center invites artists to apply for Brushes on the Beach: A Plein Air & Sunset Celebration, a one-day plein air painting community arts event taking place Saturday, December 5, 2026.

Up to 30 artists will be selected to paint outdoors at designated locations throughout the barrier island communities, capturing the businesses, beaches, landmarks, landscapes, and unique character that make our coastal communities special.

Following the painting competition, completed works will be displayed at the Beach Art Center for an evening Reception, Awards Ceremony & Silent Auction.

Event

Overview

SELECTED ARTISTS WILL:

Paint outdoors at a designated event location using their own equipment and materials.
Select from available painting locations on a first-come, first-served basis following acceptance into the event.
Have their painting surface stamped by the Beach Art Center prior to beginning their competition piece.
Complete one original plein air work during the designated painting period.
Submit the completed artwork framed, wired, and ready to hang by 3:00 PM.
Establish a starting bid for their artwork for the silent auction.
Be eligible for more than $500 in awards and prizes.
Have the option to display one additional, previously completed painting representative of their work during the event.

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Plein Air Painting

Artists paint at their preselected locations. Artists should remain at their assigned locations during the competition so visitors can use the event map to find and watch participating artists at work.

5:00 – 7:00 PM

Reception, Awards Ceremony & Silent Auction

The community is invited to the Beach Art Center for an evening reception featuring the artwork created throughout the day. Awards will be presented, and guests will have the opportunity to bid on artwork through the silent auction.

6:00 PM

Awards Presentation

Awards include First Place, Second Place & Third Place

7:00 PM
