December 12, 2026
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
This workshop uses seascapes as a starting point for expressive, layered paintings in oil and cold wax. Students will explore techniques for building depth, texture, reflected light, and atmosphere while developing a more personal and expressive approach to coastal imagery.
Students will focus on:
Exploring cold wax techniques including layering, scraping, veiling, glazing, and mark-making
Using value, color temperature, and edges to create depth and reflected light
Simplifying and interpreting reference photographs rather than copying them literally
Developing expressive approaches to water, sky, and coastal light
Building layered, atmospheric paintings with oil and cold wax
Exploring color, texture, and composition to create a personal visual language
This class is designed for artists interested in exploring expressive seascape painting with oil and cold wax. Individualized instruction and guidance will support experimentation, help students develop their techniques, and encourage a more personal approach to the coastal landscape.
Instructor will provide cold wax medium and specialty tools/materials for experimentation. Students will bring a short list of basic oil painting supplies and substrates (see supply list).
Students must also bring their own table coverings/drop cloths and water containers. Please bring a bagged lunch with you as well.
